I was approached about a full spread featured artisan article, interview and photoshoot about me and my art for the upcoming March 2018 issue of St. Louis Homes + Lifestyles magazine. They interviewed me and came to my studio for a photoshoot late in 2017. The magazine will be published near the end of February. I am so excited to see how it all comes together!

Located on the tree-lined parkway of beautiful Flora Place at Tower Grove Avenue, the Historic Shaw Art Fair is one of the premier fine art and fine craft fairs in the St. Louis area. It is highly rated by art fair magazines and participating artists. Roughly 135 top caliber artists and craftspeople from around the country are selected each year to participate in the professionally juried event.

This year it was juried by Brian David Smith, a renowned painter and art faculty member at St. Charles Community College – St. Charles, MO, Melissa Whitwam, fiber artist and Executive Director of the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, MO, and Michael Parrett a metal and glass artist and Director of Community Programs and Director of Operations over the Grand Center location of Craft Alliance Center of Art+Design.

Visitors and artists will enjoy the festive atmosphere that includes live music, a food court featuring food from many local restaurants, and a children’s art area.

This event is held concurrently with the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Best of Missouri Market, which is located directly across Tower Grove Avenue from the Shaw Art Fair.

Buying art online can be a very positive experience. Art can enrich your life and improve your feeling of self-worth. It is great for inspiring children and young adults.

Buying art online has some great advantages too, like increasing the volume of art to choose from as well as finding some really affordable options since you can often buy directly from an artist. Buyers just have to keep a few things in mind to make sure they get something they will really love when the package arrives.

When you buy art online, make sure the artist or website has good photos of the art. There should be at least a photo showing the whole piece as well as a detail or alternate shot so that you can see as much of the details of the piece as possible. Ideally, there would also be a photo of it in a room or setting to show scale along with photos of the sides or edges or anything else that is unique or important for the buyer to see. Seeing art in person is always best, but good photography has really bridged the gap for online purchasing of art…

Art&Air is one of the best art fairs in the Midwest, attracting artists from over 23 states. Each year, over 110 juried artists participate at Art&Air, which is often noted as one of the best art fairs in the Midwest. The artists come from across the U.S. and Canada, with a third of them coming from outside the St. Louis metropolitan area.

I am really looking forward to the show. I had a lot of fun last year at the Shaw Art Fair, and this one should be fun too.

My abstract painting was featured in the spring issue of St. Louis At Home Magazine.

I was contacted to submit paintings for a section they call Get The Look, where they feature mostly local artisans and furniture and design boutiques that have fabulous examples that are on trend with the feature articles of that issue.

This issue also featured their 2015 St. Louis At Home Architect and Design Awards. You can also see my art in the online section of the magazine.

‘Corruption’ is one of my newer modern abstract paintings. It takes a stab at visually articulating the concept of corruption and the downfall of society because of it.

You might notice the strong vertical and horizontal lines in this piece. It suggests an architectural subject. I wanted to combine that with some distinct texture that gave it some additional industrial cues. The dark burgundy color palette is bold and attention getting, which was intentional, as I wanted a strong visually impactful piece.

We all experience corruption in different facets of life. It is often portrayed on the evening news and in social media. You can’t miss hearing about it or at least the speculation of it. In this painting, I am showing the destructive remnants of a corrupt society. The architectural elements seem to have decayed in this abstract painting. Read more and watch a video interview here.

A while back, a local interior designer commissioned art from me for one of their projects.

They were completely redecorating the Carrollton Bank in downtown Clayton, MO. They did a great job by the way. As they got closer to the end of the project they needed some contemporary abstract paintings for their conference room that had windows facing the busy street that is famous for hosting the annual St. Louis Art Fair. I made two custom paintings for them that were twins that flanked the sides of the room.

This commissioned painting had to mesh well with their existing design, as well has enhance the small wall space in the conference room. Red was a primary color in their design, so I used that as an anchor color and worked off of it with to produce this modern abstract painting titled “Ochre Scape 77”.

About the painting:

Working with the theme of good and evil, I created Visceral Turmoil a 24”x48” acrylic painting on canvas. I wanted to show the everyday struggle we all have to do the right things and make the best decisions. I explored the internal, even subconscious turmoil that we go through as good and evil battle as we are making decisions. By using aggressive contrasting colors, texture and graphite strikes, I depicted my perspective of what these moments in time look like.
